Individual or Family Counseling
I offer individual and family counseling in person, via Zoom or by phone. I will listen and help guide you through the grieving process with understanding and compassion. I begin each supportive pet loss and grief session by lighting a candle for your beloved pet. I encourage you to share pictures with me. You don’t have to go through the loss of a beloved pet alone. I am there for you.
Euthanasia Counseling
I offer euthanasia counseling as an adjunct to your vet’s recommendation, and am available on short notice if need be in person (if in the vicinity), via phone or via Zoom. Often these are last minute decisions that cause so much anguish if not thought out carefully. I can help you in your time of need with this heart wrenching decision by assisting you to realize what is best for your beloved pet, you and/or your family.
As a certified end-of-life pet doula by the University of New England, (2024), I am trained in hospice care for animals and can also offer support during those last days of care. I can offer suggestions to you for that beautiful last moment with your beloved pet that may help you and your pet go through this last moment of love together.
Support Groups
The death of a pet can cause sadness, anger and guilt. A Pet Loss Support Group is a comforting place to share experiences and feelings in a supportive and compassionate environment. I offer groups online via Zoom and at my home office in Maine. All are welcome.
Lectures
I offer lectures on pet loss and grief counseling to veterinarian conferences, as well as schools of veterinarian medicine. Please contact me to set up a lecture.

What People Are Saying
“[Patricia] was simply wonderful—helped us work through our grief in a respectful, compassionate manner. Her skills were very evident as a grief counselor—she listened with an open, caring heart and was able to give us permission to honor our feelings of loss and anger and sadness. She enabled us to channel our really difficult emotions in a healthy way.”
“Patricia worked her therapeutic magic. She offered me the chance to explore the feelings of loss and what my long-time feline friend meant to me, the depth of this connection with him and the comfort this gave me. She conveyed a real respect and caring both for me and for my wise and gentle cat, which allowed for some unexpected emotions and insights to surface.”
“I don’t think I can fully express how grateful I am for our session. I was feeling completely overwhelmed, heartbroken, and lost after losing Xhek, and speaking with you brought me a sense of comfort I truly didn’t think was possible. You helped me see things in a different light and gently guided me out of a very heavy place. Your kindness, warmth, and the way you listened made me feel safe and understood in a moment when I needed it the most.
What you said “Your beloved pet is the angel of your better self” stayed deeply with me. It touched something inside me and made me reflect on the love I gave and received from Xhek. It helped me realize that this love doesn’t disappear, it becomes part of who I am, and that brought me a sense of peace. After our conversation, I feel calmer, a little lighter, and more connected to life again. I’m still grieving, but I no longer feel as lost as I did before speaking with you.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your compassion, your time, and for helping me through such a painful moment.”
“Thank you for the beautiful poem thank you for listening to my story thank you for opening my eyes to life you told me that I’m going to be okay I believe you told me that my son loves me I believe that you help me see what my other therapist couldn’t listen to me when I was crying you understand thank you for having a session with me pro bono that means a lot to me you helped me in so many ways thank you again for the poem and thank you for being there and listening.”
